When my teenage son was caught shoplifting, I was mortified. I thought that he was a happy teen but there were obviously things about him that I did not know. We begged the court for mercy and thankfully we had a judge who was able to see the potential in my son.
He ordered my son to take an online theft class. I had never heard of this but soon found out that the class covers issues such as why people steal, the risks and consequences of stealing, and also how the person who steals can learn how to manage stress and emotions to achieve better impulse control. I liked that it was self paced because I knew my son would not stay focused if he had to sit in one place for an entire class.
He took a stop theft class and learned a lot. I did too. Now, we are able to talk more openly with one another. I have a feeling that he is back on the right track.

Online Theft Classes to Satisfy the Court and Businesses
Courts have required educational programs for first time shoplifting offenders for as long as I can recall. It just seems to make sense that someone who steals one time should be educated on the mistake they are making rather than incarcerated. Recently, however, businesses have started requesting employees take stop theft classes as a way to reduce shoplifting and employee theft.
Since not every court that orders these classes has access to local training centers and not every business can afford to send large groups to such trainings, there is an easy solution. We recommend courts and businesses use online theft classes.
Online classes have many advantages. They can satisfy court requirements for shoplifting education but are also flexible and cost effective enough for businesses to utilize.
There are different length courses but the most basic can be completed in a minimum of four hours. The other benefit is that these classes are self paced. You can take more time, and complete them in one sitting or a dozen. The instructors find that people learn best when they can proceed at their own speed and attend to it at an optimal time for concentrating. All you need is a computer and an Internet connection to get started, so why wait?

Reasons to Take Impulse Control Classes
Most people have impulses they try to control on a daily basis. This could be grabbing a pack of gum while in line at the grocery store or going on buying things you don't need just because they are on sale.
Sometimes these small impulses can grow into larger problems. If you are struggling with impulse control problems do you feel imprisoned by them? Are they starting to interfere with your life?
Have you considered taking an Impulse Control Class? When you take a class like this you will learn why you have those impulses and how to break the strong need to act on them. Some of the most harmful impulses include: gambling, spending money shopping, impulsive sexual behavior, impulse eating and so many more.
By learning how to change the way you think and respond to your impulsive urges, you can enjoy a freer life. These online classes will teach you a lot about yourself, how to change for the better and what could happen if you don't change at all.

A Theft Class is a Smart Alternative to Jail
It would seem to be a no-brainer that one would not choose to get arrested and thrown in jail. I have read about some Native Americans who choose to go to jail. Their plight is unusual as they do not have enough money to feed or stay warm in the winter so they usually do something quite innocuous like drinking in public. The local police understand and put them in jail for a couple of months.
Most of us do not choose to use the jail system for public assistance. Thieves do not want to end up in jail.
Tens of thousands of people are arrested and jailed due to theft. Most of these people's lives will be forever changed. It will be changed by the experience in the jail cell and it will certainly change with respect to current and future employment.
An online theft class can help someone who feels compelled to steal. It can help them understand their feelings and how to manage their impulses. A theft class is certainly a smart prevention alternative to jail.

What to When You Know Someone is Stealing
Have you ever seen someone shoplifting? If you are over the age of ten there's a good chance that you have.
If you take a shoplifting class, you will learn that studies have shown that more than 90% of adults over the age of 25 have witnessed someone stealing. If you are one of these individuals what did you do?
The majority of witnesses do nothing more than watch the theft occur. Studies show that five out of six witnesses to nothing at all.
Here's what you should do. If you see someone shoplifting you should locate store personnel as quickly as possible. If none are available, as discreetly as possible focus on the details. Shoplifting is not worth you getting hurt over, but you can pay attention to details. Personal attributes of the shoplifter like height, weight, eye color, hair color, tattoos and piercings can help police identity the thief. What about other types of theft? Tax evasion? Exploiting business expenses? or using company time to go on Facebook? What do you do about these situations? Do you notify anyone or just stay quiet?
When someone steals, we all pay a price. Taking steps to correct these behaviors benefits ourselves and our communities. Perhaps a gentle suggestion to take an online theft class, or notifying an authority figure but above all else do not put yourself in harms way.

When Should Your Friend Take a Theft Class?
If you ever have thought that your friend should take a theft class, I would bet your feelings were correct. We all know that stealing is wrong. We all know stealing is illegal. Many of us have known a friend who stole things.
Perhaps you have seen expensive items in your friend's apartment. Maybe your friend bragged about a recent shoplifting experience. Perhaps you were even there, maybe even involved, when your friend stole something. You know a theft class is in order.
Modern technology has never made it easier for you to confront your friend who you think has a theft problem. Admitting one has a problem is always difficult. More likely than not they do not want to go public with that knowledge. They do not want to face the ridicule from friends and suffer the shame that their dirty, little secret is out of the bag.
For those that prefer to seek help and do it in total anonymity there are now online theft classes. In the privacy of their own home they can take their own private theft class. Studies have shown that for many, learning online is even more productive than in a classroom situation.
If you have a friend who may need help, please recommend an online theft class.

Save Money by Taking a Theft Class Online
In today's tough economy we all are trying to save money any way we can. Despite the difficult economic situation there is still no reason to steal. Yet thousands of people are caught stealing every day.
In an effort to rehabilitate thieves, courts usually mandate a stop theft class. In the long run this will save the offender (and society) a lot of money. In the short term, it is going to cost the thief more than just a police record.
Currently there are two ways to take a stop theft class: in the classroom or online. As a counselor for both an in-class and online course I can tell you that online courses are less expensive in more ways than one. First, because the school does not have to book a room at a hotel or convention center, you will save an average of $25 by taking an online stop theft class.
A second way it saves you money is there are no travel expenses. No gas is used and more importantly much less of your time. Online theft classes offer extreme convenience and anonymity. They are open 24 hours a day, seven days per week. They can fit into any busy person's schedule.
So the next time you receive a court mandate to take a theft class, be sure to check out your online options.

A Theft Class Does Not Have to Be Painful
As a counselor for both in-class and and an online theft class I can assure you that they do not have to be painful. Most of us have attended classes that were excruciatingly boring. Whether they were traffic school, alcohol awareness or drug classes, we may have had a negative experience.
With modern technology and a variety of media available, theft classes are not boring. They may even be enjoyable. Let's not forget they may be educational too. After all, the goal of a stop theft class is to keep you out of trouble in the future.
Theft classes today work with the Internet so people can take classes on their own schedule from the privacy of their own homes. They are also more affordable as one doesn't have to pay for gas or transportation.
Expectations play a role in anything we do in life. No doubt, if you are ordered to take a stop theft class, your expectation will be very low. You will expect to be bored. You will expect to be lectured to.
I welcome you into my classroom and guaranty that your expectations will not be fulfilled. You will be involved and when the class was done I guarantee your outlook on theft will be different.
